BEST OF THE BEST MARATHON PACE SETTERS REVEALED

Strong leaders. Smart pacing. Serious results.

The Best Of The Best Marathon is proud to officially reveal the 2026 Pace Setters for both the 42km and 21km races — and this year’s lineup is nothing short of elite.

Whether you’re chasing a sub-3 marathon, targeting a sub-3:30 finish, or aiming for a strong half marathon time, our pace teams are ready to guide you all the way to the finish line.

Sub 3:00 Bus
42KM Marathon Pace Setters

Leading the prestigious Sub 3-hour bus is none other than Bongmusa Mthembu himself.

A multiple-time Comrades champion and one of South Africa’s most respected long-distance athletes, Bongmusa brings experience, discipline, and championship composure to the road. If you are chasing a breakthrough marathon performance, there is no better wheel to sit on.

This is more than just a pace group — it’s a masterclass in marathon execution.

Sub 3:20 Bus

The Sub 3:20 bus will be led by the steady and consistent Siyanda Gebashe & Anthony Haiden, ensuring controlled pacing and strong race management from start to finish.

Runners targeting a significant personal best or strong seeding performance can expect smart splits and confident leadership.

Sub 3:30 Bus

The Sub 3:30 bus will be driven by Anthony Haiden alongside Coach Mdu Khumalo of Phantane Athletic Club.

With leadership rooted in coaching experience and race strategy, this bus is perfect for runners aiming to break through that important 3:30 barrier — one of the most competitive marathon milestones.

21KM Half Marathon Pace Setters
Sub 1:45 Bus

The Sub 1:45 bus will be led by Lindo Ngcobo of Stella Athletic Club.

For runners targeting a fast, well-controlled half marathon, this group will provide structure, rhythm, and the right motivation to hit that goal time.

While we’ve highlighted a few key leaders, the Best Of The Best Marathon will feature multiple experienced pace setters across both distances, ensuring support across a range of target times.

Our pace teams are selected for:
